Mike’s Mellow Moment – 10 December 2017

Another strange week on planet earth then. It seems a certain man is intent on stomping around the globe poking everyone with a stick until they take notice of him. And off that doesn’t work he moves onto the hornets nests. As some commentators have said, Trump’s decision to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem and declare the city as the capital of Israel was like pouring oil on an already enraging fire. No wonder people despair. And yet….

…all over the world individuals and collectives are working tirelessly to make this a better planet – caring rather than antagonising, healing rather than wounding. A fabulous girl I met who was studying acupuncture locally went off last year to the remote bush in Africa to help those without a thing in the world. When that was a roaring success she moved to India where she helps those in slums and in the deepest jungle; often losing touch with so called ‘civilisation’.

Such people we rarely hear about. It’s the ones that shake their swords and rattle their sabres that make it onto the News at Ten. But as we chill out together each week and try to focus for the week ahead maybe we can just spare a positive vibe for the people that really make a difference. And that includes YOU. The tiniest of kind gestures when needed in the coming week can make, rather than break, a stranger’s day. And so the ripple effect starts. Joining together with the likes of the adventurous acupuncturist we will, quietly, slowly but resolutely, together be the change this planet needs. But don’t expect to hear about it on the so called ‘news’ any day soon….
