Mike’s Mellow Moment – 31 July 2016

Well that’s my 3 months in Devon done and dusted. As we’ve all said many times before, tempus fugit. What an amazing time deep sea fishing, dancing under the full moon, exploring caves, moors and the castle of King Arthur. Scoffing too many cornish pasties, not enough local cider and the best fresh cornish mackerel ever. Plus of course working with the legend that is Simon Bates, the fabulous presenter who totally gets life, Janet Kipling, and the rest of a friendly team in shiny new studios. Grateful to the dynamic and supportive boss Mark Grinnell for inviting me and hoping to re-visit yet next time staying in a cockerel-free environment….

So life marches on and whatever you’re doing this fine Summer’s weekend I hope it’s full of fun, frivolity and exploration. I’ve just discovered on returning home (after a 5 hour drive due to a smash up on the M5) that I’ve got another wasps nest in the rafters. Nice welcome present that!

I’m back in the Big Smoke all next week and please join me if you can towards the end when on Friday I’ll be reading the news for Steve Wright and others on Radio 2 plus 6Music from around 1400. Last night I dreamt I missed the bulletins as I was visiting Mum and Dad….what the heck?

So onto this week’s chill out where we hold hands as ever recharging the batteries to help us face the week ahead with the right energy and outlook. After last week’s atrocities in France with the 86 year old priest it can be so easy to spiral into a mood of negativity and despair. Yet by focussing on the positive, beautiful aspects of our everyday lives – that luminous rainbow, a smile from a stranger, yes, even (through gritted teeth) the good that wasps do – we can turn hate into love, anxiety into trust and despair into hope.

As we head into August with the help of this week’s upbeat Mellow Moment we can re-tune our outlook so that the brand new month brings us much to be happy and thankful for. May it bring you much joy so that you can dance without a care like this beautiful girl – especially at the end of the video – under the light of a majestic silvery moon. x
